Color Run

8 Apr

This past Saturday, several of the RIS teachers and I participated in a race called Colour Miles for Smiles. The race is a fundraiser for a charity that provides medical treatment for children with cleft palate. The distance is 5k, and as you complete each kilometer, you have a different color powder thrown on you. By the end, you are sweaty and coated in five different shocking shades of paint. The race was held in Bangkok in Wachirabenchatat Park, which is close to the huge outdoor market, Chatuchak (for those of you who have been reading the blog consistently and know what I’m talking about). It turned out to be a ton of fun, despite the fact that we have officially entered the hot season and the projected high for Saturday was 106 degrees. Fortunately, the race began relatively early in the morning, and the park was lovely with delightful amounts of shade.

The photos are more entertaining than anything I could possibly type, but I will throw in two comments. First, although the majority of the color came off in the shower, the magenta stained. As I type, my left elbow still has pink patches. Everyone I met Saturday afternoon thought I was suffering from a terrible sunburn. Second, I give a shout out to the taxi driver who agreed to let four farang coated in paint powder into his cab – and he was only the 3rd one we asked!

Aaaah, this looks so fun! I’ve seen color runs around here but haven’t done one. That’s so awesome you did! I love all the rainbow colors – you and your friends look great 🙂
